Haria, Lanzarote

One of the prettiest villages on the island is Haría, tucked away in the northern hills. It could be an oasis, with its plump palm trees, cascading window boxes and its air of unhurried calmThe Telegraph Travel
This prettiest of places is very popular with islanders and tourists alike. It’s loveliness as a village to be part of is enhanced by its spectacular beauty. The main feature being the thousands of palm trees, both in the village and around it, at first site it’s breathtaking.

It is a bustling little spot with all local amenities, shops, bars, restaurants, fiestas and its very own carnival. But, it still remains uncommercialised except for lunchtimes when tourists arrive from the southern resorts for refreshments and to experience the beauty of real Lanzarote.

Cesar Manrique Museo Casa - HariaUsually they are en-route to the many César Manrique architectural attractions in the north of the island, a real artists’ playground. Or visiting Cesar Manrique’s house in Haría which has been opened to the public, there you can see and admire his lifestyle, art, music, culture, friends and fun.

The Saturday market has been very slow growing and retains its sense of calm and friendliness which fits the gentle pace of the village as a whole.

Although situated in the centre of the north, Haria is not too far away if wishing to make forays to many of the other delights of Lanzarote. All the attractions of the north, 20 minutes maximum. Arrecife, the capital 30 minutes away, Puerto del Carmen, 40 minutes and the south, about an hour.

And, five minutes down the hill, the lovely safe and sandy beach of La Garita in Arrieta.
